2 .Khira sir se kaatiye maliyat namak banaya
Rahiman karuye mukhan ko chahiyath ihai sajaya.
A person who has an acid tongue should be asked to cut iron with his head to prove its toughness.
3. Rahiman vipadha hoo bali jo tore din hoy
Hit unhit iha jagat mein jan pade sab koy
Any problem one faces comes with the advantage that it will reveal what benefits
one and what does not.
4. Rahiman dhaga prem ka mat toravu charkaay
Toote se phir na milay milay ghanthi par jaay
A bond of love should not be tested with a sudden tug, either it will break or it will end up knotted.
5. Roothe sajjan manayiye jo roote sau baar
Raiman phir phir poyiye jo roote sau baar
If a good man is miffed with you, try a hundred times to woo him back into your fold.
6. Bigri baat bane nahin laakh karo kin koye
rahiman phate doodh ko mathe na makhan hoye
Do your best at whatever task you undertake to do, can butter be churned from milk that is spoilt?
7. Rahiman jivha bawari kahige sarag patal
aapu to bhitar rahya jooti khaye kapal
A tongue only speaks the bitter words, it is the head (mind) whose thoughts are expressed that gets the beating.
8. Jo vishaya santan taji, mudh tahi laptaat
jo nar daarat vaman kar, svan swad so khat
A wise man vomits inedible food and avoids sense pleasures, but like a dog who relishes both, an ignorant man wallows in sensual pleasures.
9. Dhan dara aru sutan me, rahat lagaye chitta
kyon rahim khojat nahi gadhe din ko meet
You are constantly pursuing wealth women and family; why not search for a friend who will support you in times of difficulty?
10. Gahi sarnagati ram ki, bhavsagar ki naav
Rahiman jagat udharkar, aur na kachhu upav
There is no sure method of crossing this turbulent ocean of life except to sail in the boat built by surrender to Rama.
11. Rahiman kou ka karai, jwari chor labaar
jo pat rakhanhaar hai, makhan chakhan haar
Rahim says why worry about being robbed by petty thieves when we are protected by the great Thief of butter?
12. Bade deen ko dukh sune, let daya ur aani
hari haathi so kab huti, kahu rahim pahichani
Rahim says that the cause of all worldly sorrow will vanish if only we could foresee the ultimate truth.
13. Jihi rahim chitta aapno, kinho chatur chakora
nisibaasar lago rahe, krushnachandra ki ore
The clever chakora survives on raindrops and languishes for a drop from the clouds, so too we must train our mind towards the supreme power above for survival.
14. Rahiman dekhi baden ko, laghu na dije daar
Jahan kaam aawe sui, kya kar sake talwar
Just as you cannot throw a needle away because you acquire a sword, don’t forget your poor old friends when you make rich new ones.
Rahim (1556-1627) was a celebrated poet and one of the Navratnas in the court of Akbar. He was a devotee of Krishna though a Muslim by birth. All his works are dedicated to his deity. He has authored two important books on astrology. His tomb still exists in Delhi.
